Aquaculture (less commonly spelled aquiculture), also known as aquafarming, is the farming of fish, crustaceans, molluscs, aquatic plants, algae, and other organisms. Aquaculture involves cultivating freshwater and saltwater populations under controlled conditions, and can be contrasted with commercial fishing, which is the harvesting of wild fish.

Water quality is the most important factor affecting animals (fish, shrimp...) health and performance in aquaculture production systems. Good water quality refers to what the animals wants and not what we think the animals wants. This means that we must understand the water quality requirements of the animals under culture very well. Animals live and are totally dependent on the water they live in for all their needs.
